Headed to Austin, TX

Veteran

Gavin Lutz Arlington, VA

I'm headed to UT McCombs School of Business at the end of July. I'm working through PSR for this one but I'm looking for a USMC IMA billet in/nearby Austin (i'm an 0202 Captain) - shot in the dark but if anyone on here knows of one upcoming that's not been advertised yet please let me know.

Also, interested in knowing what areas I should look at for housing. If I could be nearby local entertainment districts while still having a decent/easy commute to UT that'd be ideal. Any thoughts?

go to the UT housing center and ask them about housing -- there are specific programs for vets and they may be able to help you -- on campus = no commute

Hi Gavin,

I'm a coach in Austin and help veterans pro-bono. East of Highway 35 but still in downtown area is a little cheaper. If you use Airbnb during mid-week nights - Tue / Wed in the downtown area you will quickly meet nice people and their networks of friends can help you fast.

There are several friendly VA groups with incubators, cowork spots and they are great connectors too for friends, activities, housing.

Email me and we can chat by phone, if helpful.

Go to Camp Mabry. Show your I.D. Card let them know to need a place to sleep until you get settled in. It'll be free and will be in 10-30 min (20-50 min if traffic) of where ever you want to go. Find Franklins BBQ too. Just go to a local gas station a find an Apartment Guide and start hunting. Another out the box idea is to go to Buda, TX or around there which is not THAT far and buy a $7k-15K travel trailer pay on it, find a travel trailer spot and rent the space out for $270 - 350/mo. (assuming you'd have a truck with a tow hitch and ball to tow a trailer. Probably not what you have in mind but you never know and maybe it'll give another person an idea. Good luck in school. Don't forget the little people. [no need to waste your time saying thanks] pay it forward.

Got it you're the 3rd ACP person to tell me this. I appreciate the attentiveness, but I understand! Cheers.

Hi Gavin,

Thank you for your service and for your question. I recommend checking out the Community page where you can search for both Veterans and Advisors by location and individually message people in the Austin area. I encourage you to reach out to multiple individuals who may have some insight.

If you have any questions about how to use the Community page, or any other part of the website, please do not hesitate to send me a message and I will be happy to provide you with a virtual tour.

Enjoy the rest of the week!
