Good day MSG Biron, I have a mentor at FOX Studios in Los Angeles. I was out there for about 3 years getting a degree in film. I now am full time AGR at Fort Bragg. If you have carpentry experience, a really good job I have seen is building movie sets. It is not as demanding as some carpentry work, because many times your building facades, such as fake brick walls, and lighter wood or imitation that is just for looks in movies. Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington might be a good place to look at since your down in Wilmington. I believe they are also a part of Sony Pictures. It is hard for me now being active duty, but I have a mentor through ACP, and want to get in to the movie business as a career, it is very interesting and a lot of fun.

Kevin: I am not sure how much you want to commute, but Lejeune and New River have plenty of opportunity. That being said, they also have a steady stream of retirees who fill many of those positions.

Not knowing how long you've been out of the service or what you MSO was but lookt at companies like General Dynamics or other Defense contractors. My brother just got out of the Army not too lonmg ago and scored a great job at GD. Check them out and launch a few resumes and applications their way.

The building industry is fine it pays ok and it's booming pretty good however I physically need to move on.

I am really hoping that this job pulls through

i would move towards several areas logistics, Gov't, State, HR, Aviation and no retail

Despite the large amount of new construction here I am guessing that the market for carpentry is not great because of readily available unskilled crews with lower overhead and thus lower price tag (I've heard this from a few local builder friends).

In which industry are you looking now? Is the VA position just a shot in the dark or do you want to move into that?
