Seeking advice a mentor in the IT security field

Veteran

Joshua Hass Kimberly, WI

Good morning!

I am trying to find a mentor in the INFOSEC world that can help guide me as I begin my career. I am trying to structure my development in the most streamlined way possible to take optimal advantage of my time and resources and not duplicate efforts with regards to certifications, areas of emphasis, searching for an internship/co-op, etc.

Any suggestions/advice is appreciated!

RLTW,

Josh

With your military background, you may want to consider federal employment. Checkout the 2210 career series.

1. You receive a preference during the hiring process (for most applications);

2. You can buy back your time towards retirement.

My company provides free resume critiques to all military service members. You can submit your resume to us via email or by using our secure online submission form: http://expertresumesolutions.com/freeresumereview/

or email your resume to: Info@ExpertResumeSolutions.com

Please allow 3-5 business days for completion. We use two different formats for corporate and federal applications. I can send you examples of each to get you started.

Hello Josh.

I am a consultant with Deloitte in our Cyber Risk practice. I personally specialize in public key infrastructure and enablement (think DoD CAC usages and federation). I have been in this field for about 7 years after transitioning off of Army active duty in 2009 and have received my CISSP since. it depends on what you want to do and how specialized you want to be, but there are several great industry certifications out there offered by GIAC, CompTIA and ISC^2 that might help you get the ball rolling. Feel free to message me if you would like to start a conversation on certifications and next steps.

Regards,
Max

Joshua,

I am a Veteran Recruiter (Army Veteran) with Quicken Loans, which happens to be the #1 place to work for in IT for the last four years. We have quite a few opportunities for those with experience in Information Security. If you are interested in taking a look at them, or having a conversation, just let me know. The link below is the article from Computerworld Magazine for your reference. Below that will be our Career page link that takes you directly to the IT positions currently available.
