Hello everyone I am a Navy Corpsman, about to get out of the military and a few jobs caught my eye on USAJOBS it was Marine/Air Interdiction Agent, ICE Agent or Security Specialist. I've started my own research on all of these but there's only so much info online. I would like to know what I can do to prepare myself for these possible jobs.

Thank You for your time

Hi Joshua,

Great question. I'm a former Marine (0311) out of Pendleton..I see you are in Oceanside.

You may want to contact a VA Veteran Recruiter. These are federal employees that will help you navigate the federal job market from A-Z. Obviously, free since its through the VA. Here is the link: http://www.vacareers.va.gov/veterans/contact-veso.asp

While they may be focused on jobs with the VA, my recruiter helped with outside the VA as well, since the process is pretty much the same.

Good luck!

Hi Josh. You might want to expand the job titles you are applying for, because you have many more opportunities to apply for fed jobs once you are already in the system. Be patient and start applying early...its common for the fed hiring process (from what I've seen) to take a year. Your vet status will be a huge help to you getting selected. When answering any questions about your qualifications...always "answer up" a level or two. Sadly, since most people exaggerate their level of qualification in any knowledge/skill/ability (KSAs) they respond to in the applications, the entire universe of applications is drastically skewed to the extent that if you don't answer "expert" (or whatever the highest level is on multiple choice answers) on all questions, you wont end up on a best qualified list. There is an "art" to relating your own professional experience to the KSAs of the job announcement, you get me?

Hi Joshua,

I'm a career coach and don't charge for military. Go to my website, transitionsbyTaube.com and if you're interested I would like to help you.

Preparing for interviews and networking to find people who know people in the organizations is the way to go. Orville Pierson writes some books on networking and interviewing. I've worked with Orville in the past and his books are my bibles.

what does your resume look like? how are your interview skills? let's skype
