A little bit about my self.
I am active duty Air Force and I've been in the military for 16.5 years now as a medical technician. I'm currently a TSGT (e-6) and going the full 20 yrs for retirement. Currently I am working with the Intelligence surveillance reconnaissance squadron and currently holding a TS/SCI clearance. My plan after retirement is getting another job Hopefully a career but not as a medic. I want to do something different but don't know what I can do with the experience I have. I would like to do something with my high security clearance as it will be valid for another 2 yrs after my retirement. Can someone point me to the right direction?

The answers provided are all good. Neil provides some good advice in which I am more familiar. I am not familiar with security clearance but I am with durable medical goods. There is a lot of room for growth and a lot of potential. I understand that there is also preferences given by the VA to supply their patients with products when the company is run by a veteran. I would consider moving into that area of healthcare.

I find too many Vets headed to jobs that pay not even a living wage...fireman and police jobs...unless your are working in a major city these jobs are a visit to payday style loans on the 3rd week of the month.... same is true for service jobs as installers and mechanics and cooks. Hold your thoughts on medical for awhile and look at durable medical good sales...go to any nursing home and see the area under the stairs....row after row of medicare paid wheelchairs they never send back...you can make money on every one sold.
Some wisdom I heard many years ago... find something that interests you or you enjoy and find someone to pay you for doing it. Take an inventory of your skill sets and interests. You may not want to deal directly with medicine, but there are many openings for good Medical Administrators, business managers for doctors and clinics. and such. With your specialized understanding of this field and the familiar relationship in an area that is is high demand, this might permit you some transition. Any interest in the VA Admin? They might benefit from your knowledge.
Joel, I would suggest you first determine what you want to do and then research where that fits with government and private sector jobs. As you do not want to work in the medical field what other skills do you have that are transferable? Law enforcement is a wide open field for veterans with opportunities everywhere. Since you have some years to go before retirement why not identify what your ideal job would be and then attend education and training that would prepare you for that job. Your security clearance would be a positive in the fields that require it.
