Lawyers in Michigan?

Veteran

Jon Peterson Ada, OH

I am in my second year of law school at Ohio Northern University and I am trying to make connections with some attorneys from my home state of Michigan. I am looking for potential internship possibilities so if there is anyone connected to the area that may be able help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry, I am coming up empty-handed on this one. Law firms and judges usually work through the law school’s Dean to place law school students, so he may want to reach out there at Ohio Northern.

This came from an Appellate Court Judge. P.S. Cooley is going through a big challenge on their accreditation, maybe places are seeking other schools. Thanks for your service and God Bless.

Hi Jon,
My daughter attended law school in Michigan and there were internship/externships in available in Lansing - a number of her classmates obtained jobs with various divisions within the Attorney General's office. Some were paid and some unpaid (for class credit). You may want to check into that.

The Director of your law school's Career Development office should also be able to assist you in making contacts in Michigan. It is in their best interests to have their students secure employment both during law school and after graduation.

Best of luck!

Jon,
I would also encourage you to reach out to the American Bar Association; they may be able to help direct you to different organizations in your area and how to go about applying for internships. I would also suggest looking into your alumni network affiliated with your university and see which graduates are at firms that are also looking for interns.

Good luck!
