How to Procure Contracts with Governmental Agencies and Medical Institutions

Veteran

Dr. Tammy Foster-Knight, Ph.D. Wesley C, FL

Hello Advisors

I am seeking information and advice on how to procure contracts with governmental agencies and medical institutions. Currently, I am contracted as a Healthcare Provider with TRICARE, the provider of medical insurance for active duty, retirees, guard, reserves, and their dependents. I provide Durable Medical Equipment, i.e. wheelchairs, canes, walkers, breast pumps, nebulizers, etc. to the above audience. However, I am two years removed from actively working the business.

Last week I participated in the 2nd Annual Florida Women Veterans Conference. There I met a gentleman who briefed about small business enterprises, and I was able to discuss my business with him. We agreed I should forge ahead in bringing my business back to life, but this time starting out on a much smaller scale -- less equipment. That said I seek your assistance / advice on how to bid on contracts.

I am fortunate in that I have certifications as a State of Florida Woman-owned, and Minority-owned business and also a certified SDVOSB-owned entity.

In advance, Thank you.

Tammy

Tammy,

Are you requesting assistance on how to write a proposal in order to win a contract with a government entity with respect to effective proposal writing, FARs regulations, or are you asking where sources for government procurements can be found, such as the GSA schedule or Department of Veterans Affairs Federal Supply Schedule (VA FSS)?

Tammy,
It seems to me that what you're asking for here is direction. And as with any start up endeavor, you need to research the market as thoroughly as possible. You need to know who you will be competing against. And learn as much as possible about how they do they're business. You can start with a Google search for companies that supply medical equipment. This research should be part of a business plan. I would visit the closest VA office and speak to someone about preparing a plan suited for your industry. If there isn't one in Riverview, I'm sure there's one in Tampa. They should be able to give you the guidance you need. I hope this helps you to the next step in your endeavor.

Did you ever find assistance?
I've been looking at all the Federal sites at the contract opportunities. I also have the M/WBE certification as a DME.

Hi Huet

Thank you for responding to my request for assistance.

I have started the market research and have compared several competitors, I am learning a lot. As for the VA, there is one in Tampa so who should I seek out; is there a particular office you suggest I visit?

Thank you
Tammy

As for your questions, I am "seeking assistance on how to write a proposal in order to win a contract with a government entity with respect to effective proposal writing, FARs regulations, AND learning how I can find sources for government procurements."
