I am starting a tool design company in Medina, Ohio 44256, and would much prefer to use a veteran-owned CPA business. Any suggestions on where/how I might locate such?

We are informed we should have a registered CPA firm to best set up our business. Need this soonest possible. Thanks.

Walter,

I recommend that you contact the Accountancy Board of Ohio ( http://www.acc.ohio.gov/ ) and ask one of the staff members for recommendations. I agree 100% with your stated criteria for a veteran-owned CPA business. Your CPA should also have knowledge and experience in

1. Cost & managerial accounting
2. Six Sigma/TQM
3. Accounting principles
4. Support for small business operations
5. Federal and state taxation
6. Payroll and bookkeeping
7. Product costing to include research and development

The CPA should assist you in selecting the business form (corporation, partnership, LLC, etc) and building your business team that should include an attorney and financial advisor. There should be no cost to you for either of these professionals until you need their services.

Please contact me if you need any additional information.

Bill

Walter:
First and foremost, thank you for serving our country for 38 years.
Second, I'm curious why you feel you need a veteran owned CPA firm to assist in setting up your business. Among the primary things to keep in mind in hiring a CPA are really his/her skill set, credentials and experience. One of the benefits of having a CPA on your team is the diverse business background they bring to the table. If that person is a veteran, all well and good, but I would not recommend you limit your search to just veteran CPA's.

I am a retired CPA who's worked in public practice for 8 years and in manufacturing for an additional 38 years. I actually live very close to Medina and would be glad to discuss this matter with you. I have a number of financial & CPA contacts in the Cleveland-Akron area and would be more than pleased to put you in touch with them.

Please feel free to contact me at hollis6785@gmail.com.

Sincerely, Pat Hollis

Hi Walter,

I used LinkedIn's advanced search feature. For keywords I typed "veteran AND CPA" then set the location for 10 miles of 44256 and got this result:

https://www.linkedin.com/pub/will-bertemes/b/a5a/649

The next attempt were these precise keywords: "veteran" AND "CPA" then set the location for 25 miles of 44256. Here are a few results:

Also consider the Medina Chamber of Commerce, but you might have to dig deeper to find veteran affiliation.

Kind regards,

Charles
