Curious to see if there are any resume reviewers among the crowd who could help guide me?

Veteran

Derick Reagan Birmingham, AL

I have written my resume over and over and have gotten multiple interviews. I landed a job at a large corporation; however, my initiative and performance was foreign to them, so we did not work out very well. With that I did learn a great deal about "Civilian" jobs in regards to the wide range of names placed on them. Thus, making my job search broader, unfortunately I am at a point where I cannot stand by waiting for my resume to just work for someone. I am almost down to nothing so this resume is everything and would like to put out a perfect product. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Derick - It may not be your resume that makes the difference in your job satisfaction. Skills, intelligence and drive are certainly critical but your fit within the corporate/company culture is equally important. As you consider a new employer, look at their company values - usually posted on their website - and decide if they match your own. A company that lists 'profits' or 'shareholder returns' as their first value puts money before people. A company that lists 'customers' before 'innovation' likely will do what their customers ask and ignore the pace of technology. Neither of these are bad but maybe they don't work for you. We all make decisions based on our values - even corporations - finding a place where your values are honored may be difficult but that alignment breeds employee satisfaction. Best to you in your pursuit.

I hope that you have already found the decision using all these helpful resources and tips. Though, probably my answer will be useful for people, who have the same problem. I totally agree with the previous commenters that skills are not always the most significant factor. You should adopt your resume to the position you are applying for. It can be definitely difficult for a person, who has never edited documents like this. Probably, this website http://resumewritingreviews.com/ with reviews of companies will help you to find the service that will do it for you.

Derick,

With your military background, you may want to consider federal employment.
1. You receive a preference during the hiring process (for most applications);
2. You can buy back your time towards retirement.

My company provides free resume critiques to all military service members. You can submit your resume to us via email or by using our secure online submission form:
Email: Info@ExpertResumeSolutions.com
Form: http://tinyurl.com/nwz27gc

Please allow 3-5 business days for completion.

We use two different formats for corporate and federal applications. I can send you examples of each to get you started.

Thank you for your service.

Good Morning, Derick and thanks for serving our country.

My career covered over 46 years in both public accounting and manufacturing and a large part of my responsibility as a CFO included Human Resources. I've reviewed many, many resumes and written innumerable job descriptions. I'd be very glad to look at your resume if you'd forward it to me @ hollis6785@gmail.com.

My objective is to ensure you've described and accurately presented your skills, achievements and career goals. If we can accomplish that, taking the next step in identifying appropriate positions and attractive employers should be much simpler.

Looking forward to hearing from you, Derick. Pat Hollis

Hi Derick, I would be pleased to look at it. My e-mail is Steve.kemp@peoriaaz.gov or you can message it to me on site. Things to keep in mind. Resumes don't get you hired, they get you further consideration. Keep it easy to read; never more than two pages, use fonts such as Arial that scan easy and accurate.

Just as SEO seeks out keywords to find you, I like to get a copy of the job description I'm applying for, and make sure my resume and cover letter use its keywords too!
Best to you
