Any advisor with Foreign Service background please?

Veteran

RICHARD ANSAH Fort Riley, KS

I am transitioning out of active duty in the next 14 months. I have the desire to work with the State Department as a specialist and I am wondering if there is a mentor with that background or anyone with some knowledge of how the recruitment process works. Also what I can start doing now towards that goal before I transition out. I would appreciate any response greatly. Thanks

Richard, this is for you and all others who served in the military. If you are looking for a job, go to www.military.com and www.Realwarriors.net. Also, the following major companies specialize in hiring veterans...Amgen, AT&T, Intel, and Morgan Stanley.

Richard,

I served as a logistician in the Army and transitioned into civilian sector logistics specifically in healthcare. My last position was as the VP/Chief Logistics Officer for a 2 hospital system in Chicago. I note you mentioned you wanted to work in the State Dept... If you have any desire to work in civilian healthcare logistics, I'd be happy to help..
Regards, Ken Peterson

Hello Richard,

Do you have your undergraduate degree? If not, that is the first step. There are certain feeder schools where State recruits. Depending in where you are academically, I would start with this link and go from there. Academic advisers at each of these schools will have a good idea of the recruitment process, networks within State, etc. to help you out.

I have contacts within the Dept of State but I cannot post their information here. Reply back with an email or other means in which I can PM you. Or better yet, shoot me an email to info@norhillgardner.com.
