Computer Information System student looking to work for AppleCare while in school.

Veteran

Grant Auch

I am very interested in working in the AppleCare at home program while attending school full time in pursuit of a degree in computer information systems. This would provide me with an opportunity to learn more about troubleshooting and technology in general. Furthermore, It's a part time position which would allow me the necessary time to concentrate on school work.

I strongly dislike just submitting an online application as I feel that there is always more that can be done. This is the reason that I am reaching out.

I am curious if anyone is familiar with this position? If so, is there any resume "buzz words" that may help me to attain it? Also, if anyone would be willing to share an apple contact so that I could better my chances?

I appreciate everyone time and any assistance that you may be able to provide in helping me to learn and lay the ground work for future success!

Hey Grant,

I don't know anything about AppleCare but just 4-5 years ago I was in college doing the same thing as you. You can be making money as a computer scientist With or Without the degree you are seeking. You can make incredibly competitive wages on your own time working remotely wherever you have internet access by learning some basic programming skills. HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, SQL. The thing no one at the 3 universities I attended Computer Science at mentioned is that front-end development careers are so accessible and have made degrees obsolete. All that matters is attaining the skill sets that are exponentially more in demand. Forget about being a support tech. Be a builder like me. It's a creative, engineering, inventive career path.

Grant,
First and foremost, thank you so much for your service... you have no idea how much it means!

Unfortunately, I don't have an Apple contact for you, however I do hope someone out there does... this sounds like an excellent plan.

I do however have customer service, IT and hiring experience, so here is my advice.

1. Make sure your cover letter and resume make you stand out. Make sure you talk about your plans for school and desire to work part time for Apple in your cover letter, and tell them WHY you want to do this. Also, don't be afraid to talk about what you are going to school for and what your ultimate goal is, and why working for Apple now will help you reach this goal.

2. Make sure your resume sells you for this specific job and supports your career path plan that you lay out in your cover letter.

3. As far as buzz words you want to stay away from them, and come across in an authentic way. If you are truly passionate about customer service it will translate in your cover letter. Work to convey how helping people succeed is something that truly makes you happy.

4. Lastly, research the company, the leadership, google to find what employees (or ex-employees are saying about the company). Lucky you... you will find a ton on Apple.

I wish you the best of luck, and if there is anything I can do to help you please don't hesitate. I'd also be happy to review your cover letter and resume if you like.

Best wishes,
Nicole
