Seeking an Advisor to review my 30-second elevator speech and resume.

Veteran

Michael Clark Pittsburgh, PA

I am a Project Manager offering 20 years of project management and human resources experience in the military and private sector. My goal is to transition from my current role with a small healthcare organization in Pittsburgh, PA to an organization that operates on a national and/or global scale.

I've applied for positions on a number of organization websites as well as through LinkedIn; however, I am afraid that my resume just gets lost in the web of online resume submissions.

I am seeking the assistance of the networking professionals here on AdvisorNet to review my resume and 30-second elevator speech to transition into a new career.

Respectfully,

Michael Clark

Hi Michael-

I am retired after a 40 year career in industry where I hired over 100 people. Now I am helping veterans like yourself by helping with their resumes. If you would e-mail me your resume (drjamesfwatson@gmail.com) I would be happy to comment on it. I also recommend the book "Tired of Eating Peanut and Butter Sandwiches? - Tips to Get a Job Fast" available on Amazon. It contains practical advice. Good luck in your search!!

Michael here is a simple formula that I have used with many of the people I Coach.
It is a two step process.
1) What is the problem the person you are meeting has?
2) What is your unique solution to the problem?
Most people overdue this by proving way to much information.
Let me give you an example: I work with lots of people who are involved in financial services.
When they meet with someone for the first time and a person asks, "What do you do?"
1) Do you know how complex our financial lives have become? (Most people have this problem)
2) What I do is provide an easy to follow set of steps that will allow you to reach your lifetime goals.
All you are looking to do is for the person to conclude that they want to meet with you to learn more. Try it you may be pleasantly surprised.
Warmly,
Bob

Michael -

If you would like another set of eyes, I would be happy to review as well. I am a PMP, but also lead an Education Team. One of my folks has a done presentation on both resumes and LinkedIn - helping people with some tips and tricks to get noticed amongst all of the other candidates for various job openings. I will send you an email with my contact email, and I will be happy to review your resume if you want to forward to me (as well as your LinkedIn).
