Starting Non-Profit

Veteran

Eric Taylor Salisbury, MD

Can someone provide advice about how to the grant process works for a nonprofit? I am developing the business plan now and wanted to know what the next steps were. I've reached out to my local S.C.O.R.E. and haven't heard a response yet.
On the Maryland State's website I found this, (http://www.sos.state.md.us/charity/non-profit.aspx) but I would like to start to try and find money for my venture and start to develop my programs, any advice on grant writing. I would like to any advice or if you can point me in the right direction that would be great.
Thank you

Hi, Eric. As a fellow veteran ( USAF ), I salute you! Happy to hear that you are developing a solid business plan. I suggest that you also be specific in the area that your non-profit will serve. Look around you. What and where is the greatest need? Are you currently involved in that area? As vets we are experts in the concept of service. What is the mission of your proposed non-profit? Research other non-profits similar to what you envision. Continue to develop yourself. Remember, you are also bringing your unique contributions to the table! I have served on city grant review boards in the past. Applicants were so focused on obtaining grant money they forgot all about presenting a compelling proposal and narrative! Congratulations on deciding to form a non-profit. Be encouraged! I do hope that this is helpful. Keep us informed of your progress! D. Young
