What books or other transitioning tools have you found to be useful?

I'm always seeing books about how to transition from the military to the civilian world, but since I'm not a veteran (my husband is), I never know if they're worth reading. I came across "Boots to Loafers" the other day and wonder if anybody here has read the book? Link: http://www.wsbradio.com/news/news/book-chronicles-transition-military-civilian-life/ngBzh/

What other books, websites, or transitioning tools have you found to be useful, either in your own transition, or in helping others transition?

Transitioning can be quite a process. Many people in my family have gone through it.

I always have found that creating a vision and goal for yourself can always be the best start. Envisioning wants you want to accomplish and who you want to be in your next stage of life.

I have found that by setting small days goals and using goal planners are the best way to keep track of what you want to do and accomplish.
Out of all the goal journals and notebooks I've tried, this one has given me the best results in goal-setting. 90X Goals: https://90xgoalplanner.com/

I've also found this Make The Connection site worthwhile when finding info about transitioning. https://maketheconnection.net/events/transitioning-from-service

You're not alone, look for local businesses or services with military connections. Reach out and ask them if they know of any knowledge about your situations. I always think personal connections are best.

Hope this helps!

I'll keep this simple: "Who Moved My Cheese?"

It's a simple book that gave me essential perspective.

"Crucial Conversations"

It's a non-simple book, that provides insights as to how you need to communicate and keep the lines of communication open by asking questions - for example, why would a reasonable person behave that way?

The first book (Cheese) is transitional. The second book (Conversations) is transformational.

Once your husband makes the transition, "Lions Don't Need to Roar" by D.A. Benton will show him how to succeed. Great book and great, effective, easy advice. The D is for Debra - a really smart executive coach.

Best wishes to you both!
