Position Description

Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) is a community of Information Technology professionals committed to delivering service and technological solutions in support of teaching, learning, research and administration. For those interested in remote work, this role can be primarily remote. We also have beautiful on-campus space in the heart of Harvard Square for employees who choose to be on-site.

The Application Developer is a technical contributor who provides both consultation and support to the HUIT IT Service Management team and helps to align the platform with business objectives and governance decisions. The position generates documentation, evaluates the impact of new requirements to ensure overall platform and process consistency, and implements controls to ensure that optimal technical solutions are leveraged in the delivery of business solutions. Overall, the Application Developer possesses advanced ServiceNow knowledge and skills and has a solid understanding of the business strategy and policies that govern the ServiceNow platform.

Core Duties

• Design, develop, and implement ServiceNow applications and services consistent with HUIT IT Service Management strategy
• Evaluate complex business requirements and work them to completion
• Provide technical expertise and participate in implementing new ServiceNow requirements
• Design and implement business-driven enhancements, including forms, workflows, reports, and system interfaces
• Provide impact analysis for new requirements
• Maintain a detailed view of the ServiceNow architecture
• Help align ServiceNow platform capabilities to established business strategies
• Assist with estimating release level of effort
• Contribute to ServiceNow software releases through configuration tasks and feature delivery
• Optimize stability and usability of ServiceNow through regular application maintenance and defect resolution on all ServiceNow instances
• Assist with incident resolution
• Continually identify opportunities for improvement, such as combining similar solution needs
• Contribute to governance processes
• Contribute to the implementation of technical best practices, policies, and procedures
• Stay current in ServiceNow products and applicable integrated technologies

Basic Qualifications
Minimum of five years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

• A minimum of 5 years working as a ServiceNow application developer/system administrator
• Extensive experience in IT service management
• Advanced knowledge of ServiceNow administration and experience developing ServiceNow applications
• Possession of ServiceNow System Administrator Certificate, plus Application Developer or Application Specialist Certificate
• ServiceNow Enterprise ITSM software experience required

• Experience with ServiceNow Service Portal
• Experience in requirements gathering and analysis
• Experience with middleware and discovery technologies
• Demonstrated ability with ServiceNow asset, incident, change, problem, request, configuration, and knowledge management applications
• Knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software, and equipment
• Advanced knowledge in JavaScript and Web Services development languages
• ITIL Foundations Certification Preferred
• Ability to elicit, interpret and analyze functional and technical requirement documents.
Certificates and Licenses
Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferred

Working Conditions
HUIT actively supports hybrid work where business needs allow. This position has been designated as a primarily remote position. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Some presence on campus may be necessary based on needs and the nature of the work.
