The Healthcare Association of New York State is seeking a Research Data Analyst within DataGen, a HANYS Services Inc. company (HSI) for the Eastern US Quality Improvement Collaborative (EQIC). DataGen offers a variety of healthcare data analytics, software solutions, and support to state hospital and health care associations, and multi-state health care systems. This position reports to the Senior Director, Advanced Analytics and will be responsible for conducting research and data analysis activities to support quality measure calculation, program evaluation and report development for EQIC.

This position is grant funded until September 2024. A fully remote work environment may be considered.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Researches, develops, and maintains analyses to evaluate the EQIC program’s progress towards advancing the quality and safety of healthcare among participating hospitals.
• Utilizes large healthcare data sets and data definitions that are required by DataGen, such as Medicare and New York State inpatient claims data, the National Health Safety Network, and the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators.
• Builds relational data files, queries and analyses using SQL and other programmatic languages.
• Has a knowledge base on the concepts behind measurement for quality improvement initiatives such as process and outcome measures, hospital-acquired conditions, and readmissions.
• Supports analytic projects and processes for the grant including, but not limited to
a. evaluates and implements changes to programming per specifications;
b. develops custom reports for EQIC leadership, project managers, and member hospitals;
c. maintains accuracy of models and appropriate documentation.
• Researches methodologies to address complex healthcare questions, performs analyses, presents findings, and provides recommendations with respect to data limitations and other nuances.
• Prepares data visualizations for presentation of analytic findings.

• A four-year degree in healthcare administration, economics, epidemiology, biostatistics or mathematics.
• 2 years’ experience in a position involving the application of techniques of epidemiology, economic analysis, statistics, and/or information analysis in a health-related field. A master’s degree in a related discipline may be considered in lieu of experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be substituted.
• Proficiency in SQL, SAS, R, or another programmatic language is required.
• Strong analytic, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• A working knowledge of healthcare claims attributes and technical terminology.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with external clients and internal teams.
• Highly motivated self-starter with ability to multi-task.
• Knowledge of relational database structure and queries is preferred.
