The Senior Cloud and Security Engineer is vital to the team's charge to protect Harvard data and applications in the cloud and on premise.

Job Specific Duties:

• Participate in a forward-thinking and energetic group of engineers, in the pursuit of excellence, using leading edge technologies to design, build, test and deploy our controls. This role offers the opportunity to contribute within an environment like no other, where talent, continuous learning, impassioned collaboration and continuous improvement lead the way.
• Partake in the support and development of Harvard CloudShield which provides secure interoperability between AWS, Azure and Harvard and protects cloud based assets (1000+ Applications)
• Participate in driving the vulnerability management process of the organization through our DevOps teams, including vulnerability analysis, prioritization, verification and mitigation - in the near future include container and microservices.
• Engage in the development of a comprehensive security solution that integrates security in all CloudShield tiers (Network, Control Plane, Host) utilizing AWS & Azure services, e.g., Guard Duty and Security HUB.
• As HUIT looks to identify security vulnerabilities earlier in the development life cycle, i.e. source code (shift left), engage in the implementation of an Application Security Testing program.
• Participate in the support and development of our centrally managed and highly scalable CloudShield WAF solution (900+ WAFs).
• Train and mentor in security and cloud technologies.
• Serve as an escalation point for troubleshooting the most complex security related challenges

Typical Core Duties

Participate fully in the build, configuration and documentation of IT infrastructure
Execute technical direction ensuring stability, reliability and integration
Lead research and design of robust and secure IT solutions
Participate in long term strategic planning
Establish and maintain internal/external stakeholder relationships
Contribute to establishing guidelines and standards
Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies and Code of Conduct

Basic Qualifications
Minimum of seven years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

The following Additional Qualifications are strongly preferred. If you meet some, but not all, you are still encouraged to apply; we value employees with a willingness to learn.

• Experience with Cloud Security and networking (Azure, AWS) is essential
• Deep technical knowledge of network or systems security infrastructure, such as network or host-based firewalls, IDS, IPS, proxy servers, tap, and/or SIEM solutions
• Broad knowledge and understanding of emerging technologies, technology trends and their applicability in a university setting
• Knowledge of Fortinet Security Suite, NetFlow, WireShark, Bro, WAF, Nessus, RASP, Sandbox and Splunk a plus
• Experience designing and implementing networks and systems for high availability, security, manageability, and reliability
• Experience mentoring and supporting network security engineering teams
• Significant Unix/Linux command-line and scripting experience
• Hands-on experience with SIEMs such as Splunk
• Extensive experience troubleshooting application connectivity and access control issues in a large and complex network environment

This position will be based in Cambridge, MA. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you will begin your work remotely. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT). The fully remote nature of this job is only temporary. Once the University and your supervisor determine that it is appropriate, in-person on-campus work will be required as a condition of continued employment. HUIT is currently developing hybrid workplace models which will actively support some remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business) where business and team needs allow.
