Job Description
Ascension Island - Senior Laboratory Technologist (Full-time Project)

Schedule: 6 months on island and 2 months off island rotation

Location Background:
Ascension Island is very remote - located in the Atlantic Ocean just below the equator and between Brazil and Angola. It is the location of a shared United States and British military (Air Force) base and radio station. Patient demographic for these positions will be the on-site contract employees at the radio station. English is the official language of the island.

Working with Beacon OHSS operational and medical leadership, support the overall day to day management of the Ascension Island USAF Project in the provision of the highest levels of medical services to all personnel working on the Ascension Island US Air Force Base. The work site is based at the medical facility on the Air Station and supports the on-site personnel.

Job Summary:
The lab technologist will work in conjunction with and support the on-site medical team for the various services provided. Work under the supervision of a physician to perform tests that help physicians diagnose and treat diseases. Medical lab technologists prepare samples for analysis, use equipment to locate microorganisms, monitor tests and procedures, analyze the chemical content of fluids, match blood for transfusions, and test for drug levels in the blood.

Responsibilities include:
Decisions concerning sample collection and handling
Donor sampling
Coagulation
Hematology
Serology
Urinalysis
Daily instrument maintenance and quality control
Sample testing
Collection and interpretation of data
Maintenance of accurate records and reporting of data
Knowledge of critical values

Requirements:
Ability to work in remote areas
Must have valid passport
3 years of laboratory experience with generalist emphasis or experience
Bachelor of Science in appropriate field of study
National certification such as AMT, ASCP, etc...
Excellent communication and people skills
Computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Mail

Do you have a Bachelor of Science in an appropriate field of study?
Do you have a minimum of three (3) years of medical laboratory experience with generalist emphasis or experience?
Do you possess a valid Passport?
Do you have working experience in remote sites?
