Start the next chapter of your Career! The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is actively seeking a devoted and resourceful Architectural Consultant to join our Bureau of Operations. You will be responsible for performing advanced consultative, professional architecture work for the Department of Corrections on a state-wide level.

As an Architectural Consultant for the Department of Corrections (DOC), you will be taking a leadership role in project phases, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding and negotiation, and construction administration.

You will be managing large, complex projects and reviewing construction plans, specifications, and sample materials for technical soundness, cost effectiveness, and compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and governing laws. You will be developing resolutions to architectural design or construction problems. You will be responsible for reviewing budget estimates and expenditures during planning and various construction stages to ensure adequate funding, and requesting additional funds.

You will be reviewing project cost breakdowns, shop drawings, and other related information that is submitted by consultants. Also, you will be reviewing and researching plans and specifications for construction projects which involve unusual or innovative approaches and safety concerns. You will be utilizing Computer Aided Drafting and Design (AutoCAD) software to generate design drawings and determine preliminary cost estimates.

You will be responsible for participating in formal pre-claim and claims hearings for dispute resolution and providing technical expertise to determine cause, and evaluate errors and omissions by the construction contractor or professional engineer or architect. You will be conducting investigations into architectural failures caused by unusual environmental conditions or faulty designs.

Work Hours and Additional Information:
•Full-time employment (37.5 hours per week).
•Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM; 30 minute lunch.
•You will have the opportunity to work from home (telework) up 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Mechanicsburg.
•This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:

Qualifications: •Minimum Experience and Training Requirements - One year as an Architectural Designer 2; OR three years of professional architectural experience in building renovation or preservation and new construction for commercial, institutional, government, or educational buildings or structures, and a bachelor's degree in architecture, architectural engineering, or a closely related field which included major course work in architectural design; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
•Special Requirement - All positions require active licensure as a registered architect by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or a reciprocal jurisdiction; or an active certification as issued by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).
