HR Data Analytics & Business Intelligence Manager

The Human Capital Management (HCM) Operations team at Hearst Corporation is responsible for the HCM ecosystem across 20,000+ employees and 300+ business on a global scale. This is the team that is responsible for the applications and products that service our employees and empower our managers and leaders. Whether supporting day-to-day operations or implementing exciting new products and modules, this team touches all aspects of the employee lifecycle.

The HR Data Analytics & Business Intelligence Manager is an integral part of that team, responsible for developing and maintaining the tools that allow the company to have the best analytics and insights on all matters that impact our employees. This role is specifically responsible for creating, maintaining, updating and administering dashboards, scorecards, reports and analytics utilizing workforce demographic and transactional data from multiple sources. The insights from this data will have direct impact on Hearst’s employees, all 20,000+ across 300+ businesses. The Data Analytics & Business Intelligence Manager will be a member of the HCM team and should have a proven track record of successful business intelligence implementations through both design and deployment. The ideal candidate should be passionate about using data to predict human capital trends and positively influence business decisions.

Primary Responsibilities
• Set strategic direction for HCM analytics and reporting at Hearst, across multiple lines of business
• Understand complex business challenges, develop hypotheses, analyze data, and communicate the results back to stakeholders
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders including HR, Finance and Leadership, to determine HCM business reporting and analytics requirements
• Support internal working groups, such as Diversity and Inclusion, to help advance critical people initiatives
• Develop data models and supporting functional and technical documentation
• Demonstrate and promote reporting best practices including the use of data visualizations to empower data driven decision making
• Ensure data quality of all deliverables, conduct thorough unit testing and facilitate user acceptance testing cycles
• Ensure visual quality of all deliverables including the design of consistent, standardized, and aesthetically pleasing visualizations
• Responsible for maintenance and improvements to existing Power BI dashboards, as well as new dashboard development
• Partner closely with various support resources to identify potential issues and troubleshoot to resolution

Skills & Abilities
• Strong knowledge of BI technologies (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, Oracle BI)
• Ability to engage and collaborate with leadership and end users to gather business requirements, translate into technical report requirements, and define functional specs for BI reporting
• Ability to use rapid prototyping and iterative design processes
• Strong analytical mindset with a problem-solving aptitude
• Should be able to effectively communicate complex ideas at an executive level
• Ability to identify trends in data and develop compelling data visualizations to communicate them
• Proven ability to take initiative, be innovative and work independently
• Strong oral and written communication skills across all levels of the organization
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent required
• Minimum 5-7 years related work experience; at least three years in HCM/People Analytics
• 2+ years of recent experience designing and developing data-driven views, reports, objects, hierarchies, filters, dashboards, metrics and visualizations on the Microsoft Power BI platform
• 2+ year of architecture, administration and hands on Power BI report tool set experience - developing complex dashboards, integrating and enriching data, and implementing DAX
• Experience using SQL including queries and stored procedures
• Knowledge of HCM or workforce data models, preferably Oracle Fusion HCM
• Knowledge of ETL processes and data warehousing principles preferred
• Experience with Oracle BI preferred but not required
• Experience with designing for mobile platforms preferred
