Senior Database Developer for Fort Washington PA

Full Time

Office Practicum provides pediatric-specific health information technology solutions for independent pediatric practices. Our electronic health record, practice management system, billing services, and business analytic tools help pediatric practices improve clinical and financial outcomes.

The Senior Database Developer is responsible to drive and deliver innovation and maintenance of our healthcare technology platform and products through streamlining our data flows. This will include data analysis, data modeling, query optimization, database configuration and database architecture. In this role, you actively contribute to the OP data architecture strategy and review designs and code contributed to the data layer of our technology platform. He/she will design and build features resident to database technologies, and function as a subject matter expert for engineers to help grow their knowledge and skills.

Essential Functions / Tasks / Duties / Responsibilities:
• Actively contribute to the architecture strategy, and keep architectural artifacts current.
• Create and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models that meet business and systems requirements for both OLTP and OLAP environments.
• Bring OP's data layer up to current standards and ensure “Best Practices” are followed.
• Streamline the data flow between software applications, both internal and third parties.
• Diagnose and resolve database performance issues.
• Evaluate current data architecture and work to improve.
• Design data warehouse to enable future products.
• Research technologies and tools to apply them to OP's data architecture.
• Join cross-functional-teams to design, code, and deliver innovative product capabilities.
• Review designs and code contributed to OP's technology platform to ensure software is highly available, highly performant, scalable, and secure.
• Develop and improve software engineering best practices and processes.
• Serve as a technical guide to engineers delivering continuous value.
• Drive consistency in design, libraries, and use of 3rd party technologies.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Chief Architect, and CTO to gain a clear understanding of OP's market objectives.
• Mentor Engineers and Tech Leads growing their knowledge and understanding of technologies and OP's architecture.
• Solve critical complex technical problems, and serve as an escalation point for Software Engineers and Tech Leads.
• Clearly communicate complex ideas in verbal and written form.
• Foster an environment of growth and innovation, where engineers thrive and strive to deliver beyond expectations.

Competencies:
• Skilled with data architecture and database technologies such as MySQL, AWS Aurora, MongoDB, Apache Cassandra, NOSQL, MS SQL, GraphQL and SQL
• Skilled building critical production worthy software components quickly.
• Demonstrated understanding of dimensional modeling.
• Expert in scaling big data applications.
• Expert in modern software security standards and techniques.
• Expert with AWS database capabilities and services such as Aurora, Redshift, Athena and S3.
• Possess working knowledge of Health IT standards and protocols.
• Demonstrable experience architecting and building innovative SaaS products that meet current and future business needs.
• Proficient creating architectural diagrams using the C4 model and ERDs.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Creative, entrepreneurial mindset, that works well in a collaborative Agile development environment.
• Experienced with continuous delivery practices, technologies, and tools for the database layer.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, products, tools, and techniques quickly.

Education and Experience Requirements:
• BS/MS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent
• 10+ years of Software Engineering experience, including 5+ years designing and building SaaS healthcare products.
