SUMMARY:
The person in this position plans and coordinates safe, efficient, and proper makeup of outbound trains and switching of inbound trains. He or she ensures that trains are in compliance with all regulations and rules; This person also prioritizes work in order to meet customer needs, and communicates with managers for efficient coordination and scheduling of trains and crews in and out of switching yards.

This position is not covered under Railroad Retirement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performs the day-to-day activities of the department and consistently takes initiative to solve problems and look after the customer's best interest.
• Working knowledge of dispatching and train movement
• Point person for all communication to and from customers regarding service-i.e. placement, pulls, re-spot, switch, car orders etc. Likely to handle more complex customers and/or movements
• Receives source documents from the Trainmaster, customer and/or switch crews, checking for accuracy and entering data into RMI software system
• Provide clear instruction/communication to switch and track crews
• Run on-line car management report and reconcile with physical checks
• Oversees waybills for customer shipments; manages car inventory to reduce car hire
• Work with serving railroad to coordinate deliveries, notification of interchanges, input data etc.
• Prepares daily car count and revenue report from daily interchange and switching revenue reports; Oversees monthly revenue closing.
•Manage other projects and perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
•Excellent working knowledge of day-to-day railroad/switching operations and practices
•Working knowledge of safety rules and operating rules
•Ability to be self-directed and to thrive in a fast-paced, pressure-filled work environment
•Good leadership skills
•Good organizational skills
•Good oral and written communication skills
•Knowledge of RMI and federal regulations
•Strong work ethic
•Prior terminal and/or road-operations experience preferred
• Open availability to accommodate a work schedule in which an individual may work varying shifts 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:
•High School Diploma/GED
•Five years of work experience in the railroad industry or industrial switching operations
