About LaVera

My name is LaVera Caston, PhD. I live in Plano, Texas. I have lived in the Dallas area for over 15 years.
I now teach Health and Wellness, Intro to Pharmacy Practice, and Health Care Administration courses at the University of Phoenix, respectively.
I tutor for the AVID Program mainly involving science and math classes at McKinney ISD, McKinney, TX. It helps to develop student’s organizational and management skills for life, and prepare them for a career or college. I taught Intro to Health Care at Duncanville High School, Duncanville, TX. This class prepares students for a career in phlebotomy, pharmacy tech, nursing, emergency medical tech, and other health care areas. I have developed a business for drug testing. I own a business as a Third Party Administrator performing drug and alcohol, and DNA paternity testing. I want this business to develop beyond testing. This business will serve a specific population in Dallas, and I want to expand it to a social service and referral organization. I am developing a performing arts foundation in the memory of my mother, along with my nieces and nephews. We will assist inner-city youth in developing their gifts and talents in the performing arts.
I earned a BS degree in Chemistry from Bishop College. I earned both MS and PhD degrees at Florida A&M University (FAMU), College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. My major is Pharmaceutical Sciences/Pharmacology. I can teach pharmacy/pharmacology courses to undergraduate/graduate nursing, medical, pharmacy or any student hoping to practice in pharmacy (dispense drugs or writing prescriptions). While in graduate school, I saw the need to mentor girls through college students. Since then, I coach young adult women and teen girls. I previously adopted a couple of families and assisted in raising their children.
I enjoy fishing, reading, and collecting coins. My parents, siblings, our families, and friends go fishing for fun and relaxation. We have fish fry’s, fellowship, and play game or watch movies. I enjoy giving books as gifts to family and friends. Collecting coins was passed to me from my father.
