About Matthew

Born in Florida, attained a BA in Music in Ireland after high school. Finishing a 4 year commitment to the USCG. I have leadership experience. Almost finished a course of study with a MS in Finance, expecting to graduate with 3.0 GPA by January 2020. I would like to go into the finance field once leaving the military. I am planning to relocate to Orlando, Florida in November 2019.

Education:

In 2015, I chose to study Music in Ireland. As a young American, this gave me an excellent opportunity to travel all over Europe and broaden my horizons by meeting with many people from several countries all over the world. Received a 3.0 GPA. While deployed on a large Coast Guard cutter, I have been working towards this online Master's program despite a fast-paced operational tempo. This displays a great work ethic and a passion for excellence, working long hours outside of arduous military duties away from shore.

I have taken classes in Mathematics and Statistics for Business, Quantitative Analysis, Economics, Corporate Financial Management, Money and Capital Markets, Modern Portfolio Theory and Investment Analysis, and Financial Risk Management, with more classes yet to be undertaken. I am expecting to graduate in January of 2020.

So far I have maintained a GPA of 3.8 in the program. I have also been nominated for the National Society of Leadership and Success, and I am expecting to be inducted soon.

Military career:

I do ordnance administration for a 270 foot Coast Guard cutter. I also train the law enforcement personnel in small arms and pyrotechnics. I am a trained MK75 operator and maintenance technician; working regularly with explosive ordnance, hydraulics, and electronics. Often, my team has to troubleshoot the aging system. This involves critical thinking to find the source of the problem, whether it be mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic.

I also have a collateral duty as a quartermaster of the watch, doing basic navigation for the ship, serving as an assistant to the officer of the deck when we are at sea. This involves plotting positions on paper charts, drawing track lines, and being familiar with basic nautical communications.

As an E-4, I volunteered to become a member of the ship's Force Protection Training Team, a position often reserved for much more senior members of the ship. (Usually E-6 and above!) This duty requires us to train crew members in appropriate ways to handle bomb threats, active shooters, and civil disturbances.

I am "above the cut" for E-5 and should be advanced soon. This will give me more leadership experience as well.
