About Walter (Wally)
I served in the U. S. Navy for 39 years. After service, I worked for BAE, Systems; and I now work for Raytheon IDS in IAMD (Patriot) Sustainment. In my current job, we have a vision to be a trusted partner, providing sustainment solutions aligned with evolving customer priorities to ultimately achieve required operational readiness while continually reducing cost.
I addition to my "day job", I am the Global President of the Raytheon Veterans Employee Resource Group. There are over 3000 veterans, friends and family of veterans that belong to this group. We operate as valued strategic business partners, fostering employee success and an inclusive, engaged culturefor all veteran's activities. We
energize our employees to support business objectives, growth, and innovation across the enterprise; attracting, retaining, and developing employees; and sustaining community connections. We support over 30 veteran's charitable organizations with the goal of ensuring that when a service member leaves service, that he or she successfully transition to their next career. We concentrate on homeless veterans, PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury, veteran's suicides and veteran placement opportunities. I have a passion to ensure that all veterans successfully transition from service to their next chosen careers.
While in the Navy, I served as a Naval Aviator, I flew P-3 Orion aircraft, I commanded a Patrol Squadron in Hawaii (Patrol Squadron SIX, I served on the Joint Staff, and then moved to the acquisition side of the Navy house. I was a Program Manager for Maritime Surveillance Aircraft, the Naval Aviation Logistician, the Naval Aviation Depot Commander, and finally, the Commander of the Naval Air Systems Command. I have always had a passion to align to the Warfighter and to deliver to the end user the capability required, the availability to ensure the systems work, and to make the systems more affordable through continuous process improvement. I introduced Lean and Six Sigma to the Naval Air Systems Command and I am a current Raytheon Six Sigma Expert.
I hold a BA in Physics from a small college outside of Pittsburgh, have an MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California, and I have an additional master's degree from the Naval War College. I believe you never stop learning.
